Spring Steel Forgings Built for Fatigue Life, Not Just Hardness
Shivam Forge is a spring steel forging manufacturer at Shapar GIDC, Rajkot, Gujarat, producing hot-forged spring components for commercial vehicles, tractors, railway systems and industrial machinery. Our product range covers leaf spring blanks for trucks, trailers and buses in SUP9 and 55Si2Mn; parabolic spring blanks in 60Si2Mn and SAE 9260; torsion bar forgings in EN45 and SAE 9260; stabilizer bar blanks in 65Mn; and disc spring blanks in EN45 and 60Si2Mn. All grades are heat-treated in-house by oil hardening and tempering to 420–480 HB, with shot peening and camber setting available.
The fundamental advantage of hot-forged spring blanks over cut-from-bar alternatives is grain flow continuity. In a forged leaf spring blank, the metal flow follows the geometry of the part — through the eye ends, around the centre section taper, and out to the tip. This continuous grain flow means that the highest-stress locations on the spring (eye end transition radii, centre bolt boss) are also the locations with the most favourable grain orientation. Shot peening adds a further layer of protection by introducing compressive residual stress at the surface to depths of 0.2–0.4 mm, preventing surface crack initiation under cyclic load.
Decarburisation control is the detail that separates serious spring steel forging manufacturers from generic forging shops. Silicon-manganese spring steels (55Si2Mn, 60Si2Mn) are particularly prone to surface decarburisation at forging temperature because silicon reduces the carbon activity at the surface. At Shivam Forge, we control furnace atmosphere during heating and limit soak time at temperature. Every batch is checked by metallographic section — surface carbon must not fall below 0.45% at 0.1 mm depth. Decarburised material is rejected regardless of hardness test results.
For Indian commercial vehicle and tractor OEMs, spring steel forging sourcing from Rajkot offers real supply chain advantages. Our Shapar GIDC location is close to major CV assembly plants in Gujarat and Maharashtra, and within 120 km of Mundra port for export. Our spring steel blanks go through forging, heat treatment, shot peening and inspection under one roof, eliminating the subcontractor logistics that add lead time and create quality documentation gaps. Delivery for standard grades from stock is 4–6 weeks for production quantities, and 2–3 weeks for repeat orders with approved first articles.
Shivam Forge supplies spring steel forgings to 500+ OEM and aftermarket customers across India and exports to 12+ countries. Our ISO 9001:2015 quality system generates full documentation for every lot: mill heat certificate with spectrometric verification, heat treatment chart with temperature-time records, hardness test report (3 readings per piece on the first 10 pieces of each heat treatment batch), shot peening Almen strip records and dimensional inspection report.
