Forged Steering Knuckles: Where Fatigue Margin Is Non-Negotiable
Shivam Forge is a steering knuckle forging manufacturer at Shapar GIDC, Rajkot, Gujarat, producing precision hot-forged knuckles for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, heavy trucks, tractors and 4×4 applications. Our product range includes McPherson strut knuckles, ball joint seat knuckles, CV front axle knuckles, tractor front axle knuckles and integrated knuckle-spindle assemblies. We forge in EN19 (SAE 4140) for passenger car applications and EN24 (SAE 4340) for commercial vehicle and truck applications, with quench and temper heat treatment performed in-house to the specified hardness range.
A steering knuckle carries simultaneous bending, torsion and shear loads through a multi-arm casting — but only a forging provides the grain flow continuity through each arm junction and boss transition that gives the part its fatigue margin. The most critical design point on any knuckle is the crotch radius between the vertical king pin boss and the horizontal brake flange arm. In a forging, the grain flows around this radius following the part contour. In a casting, the grain is random at the crotch — the fatigue life is lower, and crack initiation is earlier. This is why knuckle forgings are specified for all safety-critical automotive front axle applications.
CNC machining of the critical interface dimensions — bearing seat, ball joint bore, king pin bore, hub face — is performed at our Rajkot facility within the same ISO 9001:2015 quality system that controls the forging process. Bearing seats are machined to k6 or p6 fit with Ra 0.8 μm surface finish. Ball joint seat bores are machined to H7 with gauged inspection. All critical dimensions are verified on our 3-axis CMM, and a full dimensional report accompanies every first-article submission and every production batch.
Our steering knuckle forgings supply Indian automotive OEM tier-1 suppliers for new vehicle production and aftermarket knuckle manufacturers for the replacement parts market. Export customers in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia purchase our forged knuckles for truck and commercial vehicle aftermarket applications. All export shipments include EN10204 3.1 material certificates tied to the mill heat analysis, heat treatment records with temperature-time charts, hardness test reports and CMM dimensional inspection reports.
For procurement teams looking to source forged steering knuckles from India, Shivam Forge offers a genuinely integrated supply option: hot forging, heat treatment, CNC machining, CMM inspection and despatch under one roof at Shapar GIDC, Rajkot. This means one purchase order, one set of quality documents and one point of accountability from raw material to finished machined knuckle. Indian forged knuckles from our facility are typically 30–40% below European supply costs at equivalent quality.
